family Session

Maternity, Little ones, Extended Family & all of the milestones in between

Thank you for taking the time to view my work! I'm so excited that you are interested in choosing me to document your family! I believe in real moments and chasing sunsets. In the kinds of images that remind you of the joy that can be found in the simplest of moments together. I believe in images that are itching to be printed, placed in beautiful frames and hung on walls for years to come.

i'm Christy

Welcome

your family

portrait Session

No matter what season of life you may be in, its is worth remembering. Baby bumps, first steps, growing families big & small. There's no better time to document your family than in the present. There is beauty even in the chaos.

I will do a mixture of traditional and candid style portraits. Everyone looking at the camera, smiling and laughing. We'll play fun games, chase each other, make funny sounds, do the airplane, etc... There will also be sweet snuggle moments that will naturally unfold too.

"Not only did she capture beautiful images, but she also managed to capture the different personalities in our family."

I'm just as excited to share your images with you as you want to see them. Within 24 hours you will receive a handful of sneak peeks that I will share on my social media and will place them into your online gallery so that you can start sharing your images with your family & friends right away while the rest are being processed.

Iv. sneak peeks

Sessions typically last about an hour long. This will allow time for little ones to adjust to being in front of the camera and for sessions to not be rushed. I love to begin sessions about one hour before sunset or right after sunrise when the sun is lower in the sky to avoid any harsh shadows and bright sun patches. When the lighting is soft, its the most flattering on skin tones. Sessions are usually scheduled on weekday evenings Monday-Friday. Occasionally Sunday evenings can work for locations that aren't very busy or if its at a private property.

i. One hour on location

You will receive an online gallery link for your session. You will have the ability to print, share and download your images as much as you would like. Anyone you share your link with will have access to your images. You will have the ability to print photos either directly through the gallery or completely on your own, share and download your images as much as you want for at least one full year.

iii. High resolution digitals and online gallery

It’s typical to schedule two session dates. A primary date and a rain date. Having two dates helps me make sure that your photos happen in a timely manner. Coordinating schedules can be tough and I have found that the best way to make sure families get the look they have in mind for their photos is to schedule two dates at the same time.

v. A rain date

your extended family

portrait Session

Whether you are planning a big family vacation at the beach or if you would just like to get everyone together for quality family time with, these sessions are a great way to preserve your memories.

Your kids will get to create sweet moments with their grandparents along with fun silly moments with their cousins. We will do lots of different photo combinations. Think of it as each family getting to have their very own mini session along with a big session with the rest of the family.

"Christy was very flexible and got all the shots we needed with our large group (about 20 of us) for family photos. The end result was amazing! We couldn’t be happier!"

Booking Details

To ensure a quality experience, I take a limited number of family sessions per week.

If you're ready to move forward, a signed contract and a 20% non-refundable retainer is required to reserve a session date. The final payment is due on day of session.

If session is booked less than 30 days out, full balance will be due upon booking.

Your online gallery is linked with Millers Professional Imaging if you choose to order prints directly through the gallery. This is actually the lab that I print my own personal photos with from.

You are welcome to print the images on your own. If you do this, I recommend making sure that the printer does not color correct the images (many automatically do this.) I also recommend looking for a high quality printer. While 10 cent prints sound great in theory, the cheaper printing quality often won’t do your images justice. Paper quality, color correction and a handful of other factors play a big role in the way your prints turn out. If you decide to print photos on your own, I suggest choosing a professional lab such as one of the companies below.

Can I print the images on my own?

q:

While I don’t guarantee an exact number of images, I will make sure we capture your family thoroughly. Most families should expect to receive at least 150 edited images per hour of shooting following their session.

A:

How many images will I receive?

q:

I guarantee that your images will remain in an online gallery for at least a year. While your galleries may stay up longer than that, we cannot guarantee it. Once your galleries have been delivered, we highly recommend downloading all high resolution images to several devices. Consider investing in a portable, waterproof external hard drive.

A:

How long will I have access to the images?

q:

While turnaround times can vary by season, I aim to deliver all images within four weeks of your session.

A:

When will I receive my images?

and Questions

You are absolutely welcome to share any images on social media. To ensure that my work is properly represented, I kindly ask that you refrain from any edits. I also appreciate image credits and tags as they help me to continue to grow as a business. Instagram @christynicoles

A:

Can I share the images on social media?

q:

By default, the creators of images always own the rights to the images. However I will give you a release to use, print and share your images. The only thing you won’t be able to do is sell your image as a stock photo. I wouldn't do this either without your written permission.

A:

Do I own the rights to the images?

q:

I typically plan about 1 hour for sessions and up to 2 hours for extended family sessions. While we likely won't need to be shooting this entire time, this does give us the flexibility for location changes, rowdy kids and time to warm up.

A:

How long should we plan for the session to take?

q:

I do light retouching on all of our images. This means that if there are any glaring objects that should be removed (such as a bump from the tumble your toddler took that morning or a person in the background) I will remove it. Also happy to remove any fly away hairs or blemishes.

Larger edits (such as removing all tan lines,) require more time and would require me to add additional editing hours to your collection.

A:

Will you retouch our images?

q:

There is no travel fee for portrait sessions within Hampton Roads & Williamsburg. If your location exceeds this, I will work with you to determine the appropriate fee to cover my travel expenses (if needed).

A:

do you have a travel fee

q:

It’s typical to schedule two session dates. A primary date and a rain date. I will check in the week of your session to confirm the time & location we’re meeting. Because the weather changes so drastically here in Hampton Roads, we probably won't know what the weather will be like until a few days prior. If it does rain, I typically try to make the call at least 12 hours in advance or the morning of at the latest.

A:

WHAT TO DO IF IT RAINS

q:

First and foremost, please do not bring any sick family members to your session. Just as important as the weather, are you and your family's health.

At the first sign that your kids aren’t well, (bad ear infections, pink eye, hand foot mouth, covid, vomiting/bug virus or an extremely bad cold) please give me a call ASAP at 908-812-7916 and we will reschedule for a later date at no additional cost.

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CHILD IS SICK

q:

In my Family Prep & Styling Guide I have a list of locations throughout the Hampton roads area from parks, beach, gardens and downtown areas.

I also love exploring meaningful locations with families! I’m happy to make recommendations if theres a certain type of look you're envisioning for your session!

A:

Where will our session be at?

q:

q:

My Family Prep & Styling Guide is filled with outfit inspiration and how to coordinate colors. It also includes my favorite shops!

I'm a big fan of Lighter and neutrals colors because they tend to photograph the best and aren't distracting allowing the main focus to be on the subjects.

Black & dark navy will instantly make portraits look heavy and dark. Now, if you're going for a more bold dark moody look, black isn't a big problem, it just makes a big impact on the overall look of the portraits!

A:

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

q:

q:

I schedule sessions close to sunrise or sunset while the lighting is soft and not harsh on eyes/skin which is the most flattering. Usually the last hour before sunset or within the first hour from sunrise. Session times can vary based on the time of year you schedule your session and also if the day will be cloudy.

A:

WHAT TIME OF DAY DO YOU SHOOT AT?

q:

q:

Usually I schedule these sessions when you're around 30-32 weeks however I've also done them earlier/later. It depends on when your belly has popped. Its always best to have them done though before you start feeling really uncomfortable.
